BTMA Chief Executive to Speak at Tyre Recovery Association Briefing Day 2024

On Tuesday, 24th September, Darren Lindsey, Chief Executive from the British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) will be speaking at this year’s TRA Briefing Day, held at the Woodland Grange Hotel in Leamington Spa. The theme for the conference is highly relevant, focusing on preparing the tyre recovery sector for the upcoming Defra Digital Waste Tracking plans and the new Environmental Agency (EA) requirements for the registration of waste Dealers, Brokers, and Carriers. These regulatory changes are set to have significant operational implications for tyre retailers, wholesalers, and vehicle dismantlers alike.

In his speech, Darren will spotlight a key industry milestone—80% of tyres are now successfully collected, to be recycled or reused—while addressing a critical challenge: 20% of tyres remain unaccounted for. He will pose the question of what more the industry can do to further reduce waste and improve sustainability throughout the tyre recovery process, emphasising the need for collaboration across the entire sector.

This is closely aligned with the BTMA’s vision to lead the tyre industry in enhancing road safety, reducing environmental impact, and upholding health and safety standards.
