BTMA Supports Tyre Safety Month 2024

The British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) is raising awareness of TyreSafe’s annual flagship campaign for Tyre Safety Month. This collaboration highlights the BTMA’s continued commitment to promoting road safety across the UK, especially during the crucial autumn months when weather conditions begin to deteriorate. Tyre Safety Month, held annually in October, focuses on raising awareness about the importance of tyre maintenance to ensure safer roads for everyone.

TyreSafe’s 2024 campaign, titled ‘Caught in the ACT,’ is designed to engage and educate motorists about the importance of regular tyre checks. The campaign adopts a playful, superhero-themed approach to empower road users to become ‘tyre safety heroes’ by performing three essential checks: Air pressure, Condition, and Tread (ACT). These checks help to reduce tyre-related incidents and ensure safer journeys, making Tyre Safety Month an essential initiative in the UK’s road safety calendar.

BTMA’s support of Tyre Safety Month demonstrates its dedication to the safety of road users by ensuring that motorists understand the life-saving impact of well-maintained tyres. The partnership with TyreSafe not only elevates the visibility of the campaign but also extends the reach of its message, ensuring that more drivers and riders adopt safer tyre maintenance habits.

Why Tyre Safety Month Matters

As road conditions become more hazardous in autumn, Tyre Safety Month serves as a timely reminder for drivers and riders to ensure their tyres are in top condition. Tyres are the only part of a vehicle that makes contact with the road, making their maintenance critical for safe driving. Without proper care, issues such as under-inflated tyres, worn-out treads, or tyre damage can lead to dangerous driving conditions, increasing the risk of incidents.

TyreSafe’s goal of achieving “Zero harm to road users as a result of illegal or poorly maintained tyres” underpins the importance of this annual campaign. By encouraging motorists to check their tyres regularly, the campaign aims to decrease tyre-related accidents and improve road safety for everyone.

The ‘Caught in the ACT’ Campaign

The 2024 campaign centres around the superhero-inspired theme, making tyre safety both fun and accessible for all road users. The ACT acronym stands for three critical tyre checks:

– Air Pressure: Ensuring tyres are properly inflated for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

– Condition: Inspecting tyres for cuts, bulges, or other damage that could compromise safety.

– Tread: Checking that tread depth meets legal requirements for safe grip and braking.

By performing these checks once a month and before long journeys, motorists can contribute to safer roads and help prevent incidents. TyreSafe has created an array of resources, including posters, social media assets, animations, and flyers, making it easier for supporters to spread the campaign’s message.

How to Support Tyre Safety Month

Tyre Safety Month 2024 offers multiple ways for individuals and organisations to get involved. Road users can show their support by sharing the campaign on social media using the hashtag #CaughtInTheACT. Garages and tyre retailers are also encouraged to display campaign materials and offer free tyre checks to customers throughout October.

TyreSafe Chair Stuart Lovatt emphasises the importance of tyre safety: “By getting ‘Caught in the ACT.’ this October, drivers can become their own tyre safety heroes and contribute to safer roads across the UK. Tyre safety is not just a responsibility—it’s a lifesaving habit.”

With the BTMA’s support and TyreSafe’s engaging campaign, Tyre Safety Month 2024 is set to make a lasting impact on road safety, helping drivers and riders take proactive steps to protect themselves and others. Campaign materials are available for download on TyreSafe’s website, and all motorists are encouraged to get ‘Caught in the ACT’ this October and beyond.
